Today, we raise a cup to the world’s most popular beverage. It is, of course, coffee!
I think we can all agree that coffee is the perfect way to start the workday. But what about the ideal way to end it? Well, if you like baking as much as me, then it has got to be getting in the kitchen and kneading dough. After all, coffee is always best enjoyed with a baked treat—whether that’s cookies, a slice of pie, or (my personal favorite) a good cupcake.
It’s no secret that home baking has been on the rise since the start of the pandemic. It’s not just a hobby or distraction; it has been a therapeutic tool for thousands. The science backs it up too. Tracy Thomas, Ph.D., psychologist and founder of Dr. Tracy Inc., says she considers baking as one of her “greatest mental health strategies.” Whipping up a batch of something sweet has become a way of relaxing, resulting in reduced anxiety and stress, increased positivity, and ultimately improved mental health.
Here at North Highland, we’ve recently established the Chocolate Chip Baking Club, a new community devoted entirely to baking. We encourage like-minded bakers to share weekly recipes, bond over delicious treats, and simply have fun together. There’s a monthly group session, and an annual social gathering too. It’s just one of the ways we further our mission to improve employee experience and wellbeing.
So, we’re saying cheers to International Coffee Day! And we hope you’ll join us as well—here’s a link to one of my favorite coffee cupcake recipes to get you started. Tag us in your pictures on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram if you give it a go.
I’ll leave you with a few photos of the tasty bakes that we’ve cooked up so far…
